Combining Design & Usability with Technical Knowledge

I believe successful web development combines 3 things: aesthetics, usability, ease of programming. If I created a design that was difficult to navigate or extremely costly to program, I haven't done my job. I have years of experience with web production, so when I design, I know exactly how it should be coded. I've gotten hands-on in content management systems and custom backend code. My designer/production perspective helps my development team do their job better and faster. Having an understanding of all phases of development allows me to make choices up-front that will mean less work (and less cost) later in the process.
